PGA Legends Pro Am – 8th & 9th July 2023

Thanks to the efforts of Rick Niven & Richie Hyne, we once again secured a spot in the PGA Legends Pro-Am Tour for 2023 as they made their way through Central Queensland. What a weekend of golf we experienced!  The 1770 PGA Legends Pro Am was an absolute hit with 64 golf professionals from around Australia gracing our fairways playing alongside 80 amateur golfers most lucky enough to be given tips and lessons to help improve their game.  Andre Stolz carried his good form from the Yeppoon Legends Pro Am where he shot a one under par 33 on day one in our 2 x 9 hole competition.  He then came out on day two and shot a three under 31 to give him an 18 hole total of 64 winning the event by just one shot from Mike Zilko who had rounds of 34 & 31 and another one shot back was Chris Taylor with rounds of 35 and 31.  Saturday’s amateur division 1 competition saw 1770’s Paul Rodi play exceptionally well scoring 20 points over the 9 holes to win from both Jay Bills & Brian Bettridge both on 19 points.  Reed Rodgers won the division 2 amateur competition with 21 points from Phillip Town with 18 points and Neil Baxter with 17 points.  Kina Hazell won the ladies day 1 event with 19 points from Hannah Lawrence second on 18 points and Helen Haynes third with 16 points.  Day 1 pin shots were won by Tim Anderson, Jay Bills, Paul Jaeger, Drew Jones, Hannah Lawrence & Tracey Stephens.  Sunday’s amateur division 1 event saw Jay Bills improve his score to win with 23 points well ahead of Tim Anderson second with 20 points and Neale Dent third with 18 points.  Gary Crawford, with some excellent tuition from his Saturday golf professionals Robert Martin & Greg Rix improved on his day 1 score by 15 shots to win with 22 points!  Gary Reid placed second with 19 points on a countback from Eric Meen third.  Day 2 pin shots were won by Tania Dickson, Tracey Stephens, Jay Bills, Andrew Orford, Dale Cameron & Rodney Dahl.  Andrew Gerry from Macadamias Australia also ran a novelty ‘Putt A Nut’ competition with all competitors (pros & amateurs) having to putt a macadamia nut from 3 metres, interesting and enjoyable to watch!!
